Beriand

Beriand, a grey elf, hails from the Elven Court, an elven enclave not far from the ruins of Myth Drannor. He was a much-loved elder in a small sect of Mystra-worshipping elves, when a vision came to him of The Lady of Mysteries herself at rest in the ruins of Myth Drannor. Convinced it was a sign for him to go to the ancient city, he immediately joined the first Myth Drannor-bound expedition of adventurers that came along. The expedition entered the ancient city and was quickly ambushed by a fierce fire-breathing creature. Beriand, like many in the company, was seized by fear, but was dragged to safety by his half-elf companion, Faeril. The two took refuge underground, only to be forced to flee from drow and orcs. In their flight, Beriand's sacred staff, Morathil (Deathbane), was lost to orcs. They eventually took refuge aboveground in an old elven structure they were able to fortify. Beriand is a kindly cleric, one of the devout of Mystra, who was left blinded by magic earlier in his life. As a Servant of Mystery, Beriand has dedicated his life to help those who use magic to advance the cause of good.

Athan

Athan was the leader of the Adventuring Band Elminster formed to investigate rumors of a Pool of Radiance in Myth Drannor. It was he to whom the good wizard entrusted the precious gauntlets of Moander. And it was he who, overcome by the power of the Cult of the Dragon, let the gauntlets be stripped from him by Mordrayn's devoted servants. A powerful and proud warrior, Athan led his forces through the portal in New Phlan to destroy the growing evil in Myth Drannor, but his failure is apparent as our story unfolds. Now, the only hope the few survivors of his desperate party have for him is that he still lives…somewhere within the bowls of the Cult's dungeons.

Nathlilik
Nathlilik is a favored daughter of the House of Kilsek. Her upbringing in the Underdark was a determined march of combat training, spell-lore, and politicking. Like her mother before her, she bowed to the will of the clan matriarch and mated with the male selected for her by her House. Unlike her mother, Nathlilik came to favor her mate, preferring his company even outside of their bedchamber. This unnatural attachment disturbed her family, who threatened to separate the pair once an heir had been conceived. Kedar, her mate, was killed and enslaved by the Cult as an animated husk of his once former glory. Now she is bent on revenge for what was done to her mate, as well as her people.

Harldain Ironbar
Harldain Ironbar was lord of the dwarves during the glory days of Myth Drannor. Under his direction, the city's dwarven citizens built some of the city's most sublime accomplishments: winding walkways and stairs, waterworks that fed refreshing fountains and pools, and an ingenious system of "liquid fire" for illumination. Now, centuries later, as these wonders lie in ruins or have been turned to evil, his spirit still haunts the House of Gems, and yearns to find a way to stop the corruption and begin to restore the city's grandeur. Over the centuries, Harldain's relentless eye for value has led him to hoard some of the city's most treasured weapons and armor, which only the most worthy of allies can hope to acquire.

Caalenfaire
In his time Caalenfaire was a potent diviner: one who uses arcane magic to find out secrets and knowledge, and pry into the past and future. For his relentless and unflinching quest for secrets, he was both revered and feared. His passion for piercing the veil of the future transcended death, and as a spirit he has carried on his pursuit for hundreds of years. But little by little his intentions for using this knowledge (never entirely clear) have faded away. Today, Caalenfaire impulsively seeks the future, no longer knowing why. Unlike the Baelnorn, Caalenfaire did not elect to become undead. His willful curiosity, intent on uncovering the mysteries of the future, keeps him bound to this realm and this place. Guarded over by his familiar, a skull named Volun reported to be a rival in life, Caalenfaire awaits those who can show him how usefulness can again bring meaning to his restless existence.

Anorrweyn
Evensong
Anorrweyn Evensong was a daughter of the house of Durothil. In her
lifetime, inspired by Elminster's influence in Myth Drannor, she founded
an elven sect dedicated to the worship of Mystra. This wise and beautiful
elf priestess was killed during the catastrophic fall of Myth Drannor,
and her temple utterly destroyed. But both temple and priestess can
live again, ghostly but glorious, when invoked by those who learn
their secret.

Malgi
Hi
What brings a man to shun his kind and consort with those that feed
on human flesh? His human name is forgotten, but Malgi Hi, as his
devoted followers call him, once moved like the breath of pestilence
through villages and towns, honing the dark spells he'd gathered from
creatures that shun the light of day. His will became ironwrought,
now his form echoes it. Captivated by his self-loathing and seeking
out dark magic, his journey to Myth Drannor was, perhaps, inevitable.
Now he uses the dark arts to transform the flesh of his non-human
followers into living stone.

Baelnorn
Once an elf lord of the house of Ammath, Miroden embraced undeath
to become an eternal protector of the city he loved. As a baelnorn,
he guards and maintains the Mythal surrounding Myth Drannor and tunes
its decaying powers. The baelnorn represents nostalgia, misguided
hopes, and noble (if mistaken) intentions. He is a proud, powerful
and deeply tragic remnant of Cormanthyr's lost era of elven greatness.
Most baelnorn keep to the crypts, ruins, or mage-towers they guard
or work in, and they are never seen except by those who intrude into
such places.
